Targeting Websites With AdWords

For the past few years I’ve been using Google’s PPC AdWords to promote some of my products. It’s been successful. But I had to make a big change in my AdWords campaigns a year or so ago. I turned off “AdWords for Content”.

You see, there are two types of AdWords campaigns: “For Content” and “For Search”. When you select “Search”, your ads are displayed on Google’s search results pages. “Content” displays your ads on websites that display Google AdSense ads.

Initially, I selected both channels in my campaigns. I was getting far more displays of my ads through “Content” than on “Search”. But the click-through rate (”CTR”) on “Content” was far lower than on “Search”. And a low CTR can effect your campaigns adversely. So I turned “Content” off.

Now, Google has introduced “Site Placement”, which lets you select specific websites on which you want your AdWords “Content” ads to appear. This sounds a good idea, but I really didn’t have the time to start researching likely websites.

Now the situation has changed, thanks to a neat bit of software called “AdSense Finder”. And it’s free! With this software, you type in a keyword, and it goes out and finds websites related to that keyword which are displaying AdSense ads. For each site, it also shows you the Alexa Rank. This means that very quickly you can find relevant websites which receive a lot of visitors.

So now I can be very selective about the websites where I place my AdWords ads.

I don’t know if you are currently using AdWords to drive visitors to your website. Even if you are not, you could well be doing so in the future. I strongly advise you to go and get this software now. Remember, it’s free! But I believe that it will not be free for ever!

The download link is at the end of this intel.

There’s a good video there, but it can be awkward to play. When you hit the big “Play” button, you have to wait until the movie is fully loaded. Then hit the next play button.

Enjoy!
